Hedon Rangers A 1-Malet Lambert 1

Malet kicked off the season opener but Hedon started the better having the early chances. Malet came back into the game and the match was evenly balanced for the first half with neither side able to open the scoring

Malet started the 2nd half well and dominated play, opening the scoring after 14 minutes. Hedon gradually worked their way into the match but were unable to break down the Malet defence until the final minutes. A throw in from the Malet right worked its way across the penalty box where it was met by Daisy Young who shot home for the equaliser.

Final score 1-1 a fair result for both teams who will now look forward towards the rest of the season.

Hedon Rangers ‘A’ 3 Brayton Belles ‘A’ 5

Blue skies on a warm Saturday morning for the first league meeting of these teams.

Brayton kicked off and kept the ball for the first few minutes. A probing run by Olivia Stammers resulted in an early Hedon corner. After 10 minutes another corner was met by the head of Iona Mitchell who nodded home to take the lead. Both teams were playing some good football with the ball flowing from end to end. Natalie Gray was feeding the ball through well for Livvie who was forcing the Brayton keeper into making some good saves. Brayton equalised on the quarter hour with a low driven shot and took the lead 5 minutes later when Hedon failed to clear. Hedon were soon back on level terms a long throw was headed on by Livvie for Charlie Merry to flick in at the back post Hedon were at their most dangerous from corner kicks and Georgia Stockhill put an effort over the bar. Brayton took the lead into the half time break when a cross through the box was tapped in for their third goal of the first half.

Even though Hedon started the second half they were another goal down after only 2 minutes. Play was end to end for the next few minutes with neither side able to create an opening. A through ball from Georgia to Livvie forced the Brayton keeper to save bravely at Livvie’s feet. 12 minutes gone and Nat got her first goal of the campaign driving a low shot across the keeper into the far corner. Both teams were chasing the game forcing defenders to be on their toes at all times and making the keepers work hard for their teams. A lot of Hedon’s play was channelled down the left side with winger Jessica Lonsdale running hard at the Brayton defence. The killer blow came in time added on when Brayton sealed the result with their 5th goal.
A disappointing day for Hedon, but after a good game of football it was always going to be a tough match against a good team.

Flamborough Hawks 7 Hedon Rangers ‘A’ 8

Cold wet and grey, good weather for football in October at the seaside.

Flamborough got us under way but were behind after two minutes after Georgia Stockhill got on to a long throw to start the scoring. The lead only lasted two more minutes when a shot from wide right slid under keeper Grace Hodgson to roll across the line. After a long period of play (2 minutes) Flamborough took the lead when Hedon failed to clear the box. Finally the game started to settle down with Hedon enjoying good possession in the Flamborough half. Hedon’s equaliser came after a series of corners was finally converted by Iona Mitchell. The fifth goal in twenty minutes was scored by the home team from distance. Daisy Young nearly brought the scores level only to hit the post from a very distant six inches. Remarkably that was the end of the scoring for the first half even though both sides kept trying. Hedon had a last minute goal disallowed for offside when 3 players tried to score the same goal. Five goals in the first half, what was the second half going to be like?
Much more of the same is the answer. Hedon were back on level terms quickly from an own goal, and then took the lead through Natalie Gray. The referee’s pen was on overtime as Flamborough got back to 4:4 almost immediately. As soon as he put his pen away Nat broke the offside and coolly took her second. Flamborough were awarded an indirect free kick just outside the box which they worked well with a well placed shot to bring it back to 5:5. A powerful run down the right wing with a firmly driven shot allowed Flamborough to go back into the lead. Only a couple of minutes later they increased their lead to 7:5. Hedon had to go back on the offensive now and were working hard to get the goals back. Olivia Stammers pulled one back on 27 minutes and Nat got her hat-trick on the half hour. The winning goal came with only a minute or so to spare, Dazza hit in a low corner and Nat flicked it in 7:8.
A fifteen goal rollercoaster played in wet and windy conditions results in a hard fought win for Hedon.
Player of Match for Hedon was Nat Gray

Hedon Rangers ‘A’ 3 North Ferriby United 1

An overcast but pleasant morning greeted the teams today.

NFU kicked off and were on the attack from the off pinning Hedon back and forcing some early corners. Hedon were off the boil and allowing NFU plenty of time and space to play their game. An NFU goal was inevitable and it came after only 8 minutes, a shot from distance was parried by keeper Grace Hodgson only for it to hit the post and spin towards goal which the referee deemed to have crossed the line. NFU were good value for their lead and continued their domination. Hedon were struggling to mount any sustained pressure for most of the first half but did have a couple of good chances. A long ball from deep was crossed into the box by Daisy Young and Natalie Gray was poised to strike only for the NFU keeper to snatch it off her toes. Another long ball was collected by Dazza only for her to blast it over at the end of the half.

A few truths were said by the Hedon manager at half time and Hedon came out a more determined outfit for the second period. This time Hedon forced a series of corners but were unable to break NFU down who were still attacking themselves. At last after 18 minutes Nat Gray got on to a deep corner and levelled the scores. Only a minute or so later Iona Mitchell unleashed a pile driver from the right into the top corner to take the lead. Hedon’s defence was back to its true form standing up strongly to any attempts by NFU to get back into the game. Eventual player of the match Jessica Lonsdale was running like a demon down the left wing pushing NFU back all the time and creating chances for the Hedon attackers. Hedon’s winning goal came on the half hour when Olivia Stammers broke through on goal and her shot although well stopped by the keeper, the ball fell to Nat who had an open goal to aim at. Both teams continued to play for the points but were unable to score further.

A hard fought win for Hedon against a team who were unlucky not to get anything out of the game.

TESCO CUP 1st rnd

Hedon Rangers 7 South Cave Juniors 3

A cold windy day to start Hedon’s Tesco cup campaign.

Cave got us off to a start on a blustery day; playing into the wind they got the benefit of an early goal after just three minutes. A few minutes later Natalie Gray was through and brought the scores level. The game soon settled down with both teams attacking on the break and scaring the crossbar on a couple of occasions. From a long throw in Nat got her head to the ball and guided it past the keeper to take the lead. Hedon were keeping the pressure on the cave keeper who had a very good game under windy conditions. On 26minutes Hedon increased their lead when Molly Ellerington was played in and she finished well, she nearly got another shortly after but the keeper parried her shot then dived bravely at Molly’s feet to collect the loose ball. Cave reduced the lead just before half time with a well placed lob over Hedon’s advancing keeper.

Cave had the wind 2nd half and used it to good effect, Hedon were unable to clear their defensive area and Cave was level after 7 minutes. Parity was not kept for long as Nat put a ball through for Charlie Merry to put Hedon back into the lead. Molly took her second of the day in the 12th minute to increase the lead further. This was the spur for some sustained pressure from Cave to try and get back into the game. It took another 15 minutes before Hedon could get their sixth goal and put some daylight between the two teams. A corner flew through the box and was met by Jenna Green at the far post who shot back into the box and through the defenders to hit the net. Olivia Stammers finished the game off just before time with a well placed drive from the right to complete the scoring.

A good game in cold windy conditions with the score line somewhat flattering the home team.
