Springhead Spartans v Hedon Rangers - 3rd October 2004

First Half
With the wind behind them in the first half, the Spartans from the Myton league made the most of the early exchanges forcing Hedon on the back foot for the first few minutes of the game. Once getting used to the pace of the game, the Hedon confidence grew and the Drypool league side started to get a firm grip of the game, working hard in midfield to take the initiative. After 15 minutes, a Hedon attack on the right wing yielded a goal when James Lee lobbed the goalkeeper from sixteen yards out. Hedon took a firm grip on the game for the next ten minutes, commanding the midfield, but in a short spell before half time the Spartans rallied but failed to get any telling shots on goal.

Second Half
The second half saw Hedon with the wind at their backs, and using every opportunity to push the ball into the Springhead half to good effect. The Spartans managed only four attacks into the Hedon half, the last raid being the most dangerous late on in the game. Hedon spurned numerous chances during the second half but failed to add further goals to their tally, the busy Spartans goalkeeper making himself their man of the match.
Final score: Springhead Spartans 0 - 1 Hedon Rangers.

Hedon were certainly worth the win, bossing midfield for most of the game and never allowing the Spartans the time or room to play expansive football.

Hedon Rangers v Hessle Sporting A - 10th October 2004

First Half
Both teams began brightly, Hessle being the first to score with a lob over the Hedon keeper after two minutes. On eighteen minutes the lead was doubled after the initial save by the Hedon keeper was crossed for a tap in at the back post. Hedon fought back inside three minutes when pressure in the Hessle penalty area resulted in an own goal whilst attempting to clear the ball off the line. Just before half time Hedon equalised when James Lee got to the ball before the oncoming keeper and Richard Smith scored from the left.

Second Half
In the second half Hedon took the game to Hessle and scored after thirteen minutes when James Lee finished a fine passing move in style. Hessle did rally towards the end of the game, but Hedon held on to win.
Final Score: Hedon Rangers 3 - 2 Hessle Sporting 'A'.

An even first half gave way to a second half that Hedon deserved to win by shear hard work and persistence although all the pressure in the last ten minutes came from the Hessle side.

Parkside Raiders v Hedon Rangers - 17th October 2004

First Half:
Hedon began this game on the front foot and scored within the first minute when Josh Coupland put through an open goal from a cross from the right wing. This stung Parkside into action, and they levelled the game on ten minutes when a free kick found an unmarked forward six yards out to side foot the ball home. Hedon regained the lead on twenty two minutes when James Lee scored from a well worked attack down the left. Half time score Parkside Raiders 1-2 Hedon Rangers.

Hedon increased their lead ten minutes after the restart when Scott Harrison cracked the ball over the keeper from thirty yards. Parkside made a late flurry in the game scoring with five minutes to go from a penalty, and having a goal disallowed in the final minute for hand ball.

A fairly even first half gave way to a second half were Parkside dropped the pace of their game for most of the half, and let Hedon have the driving seat for most of the half.
Final Score Parkside Raiders 2 Hedon Rangers 3

Kingston United v Hedon Rangers -7th November 2004

First Half
Hedon started the game at pace and went one up with one minute gone. Three more goals in the next twelve minutes saw Hedon four goals to the good. Kingston rallied and started to play better football with some nice touches. For nearly fifteen minutes they took the game to Hedon and eventually the pressure yielded a goal. Hedon came back for the last five minutes of the half and scored three quick goals, all from very fast breaks. Half time score Kingston United 1-7 Hedon Rangers.

Second Half
The second half saw Hedon regain control of the game, scoring six goals without reply. Kingston kept trying but could not string together enough passes to attack the Hedon goal. The useful effect of the offside trap deserted Kingston in the second half and their confidence suffered as they played most of the game in their own half.
Final score Kingston United 1-13 Hedon Rangers.

The Hedon scorers: James Lee(5), Josh Coupland(2), Michael Taylor(3), Ryan Green, William Miller and David Gray.

Hedon Rangers v Sproatley Juniors - 14th November 2004

First Half
After a one minute silence, the game began with Hedon making the brighter start. Josh Coupland opened the scoring after seven minutes with a lobbed shot over the Sproatley keeper. Within a minute he had added a second when James Lee made a good run and cross from the right for Josh to tap in. The Juniors began to pick up their game and scored after twenty one minutes when all defenders missed a cross from the right for a Sproatley forward to side foot home. The last five minutes of the half saw Hedon take the upper hand and James Lee found goal with a chip over the keeper before Michael Taylor added another goal from a long-range shot. Half time score Hedon 4-1 Sproatley.

Second Half
Two minutes into the half James Lee got his hatrick with a goal from a goalmouth scramble putting Hedon further in front. Josh Coupland added another goal with a long-range effort after ten minutes. Hedon began to coast at this point and Sproatley began to push Hedon back into their own half. They scored from a rebound save on nineteen minutes and scored from two penalties late in the game.

Springhead Rangers v Hedon Rangers - 21st November 2004

First Half
On a cold day, with a wet pitch and long grass, Springhead were faster into their stride than Hedon. After the initial exchanges, Springhead began to take a firm grip on the game and scored on nine minutes after two back to back corners. Hedon restored parity two minutes later when Richard Smith scored from a corner. After a further period of mixed raids, Springhead took the lead with two goals in five minutes before the break, the first a rebound from a save and the second a tap in from a muddle in the goalmouth. Half time score Springhead 3-1 Hedon.

Second Half
Hedon started the second half with determination, and it wasn't long before Scott Harrison shot across goal to put Hedon just one goal behind. The second half became a story of missed chances by Hedon who generated the better chances in the half. The last score of the game came with five minutes to go. A shot from Michael Taylor hitting the post, Adam Daddy despatched the rebound before the defence could respond.
Final score Springhead Rangers 3-3 Hedon Rangers.

Springhead had chances to win the game in the first half, and Hedon in the second, but probably the Hedon side will reflect on all the chances that went begging and the subsequent loss of points.

Hedon Rangers 5 Hessle Rangers 3

Both defences were sleeping in the first exchanges of this game, giving a remarkable scoreline of 1.1 after only 1 minute’s play. Hedon equalising Hessle’s opener with a Matt Broadley strike.

Hedon increased the lead when Matt again latched onto a flicked header from a free kick to volley home in style. Alex Randerson worked tirelessly down the right flank throughout the game allowing Dan Carrick to extend the lead for Hedon. Good work on the other flank tee’d up ‘Taz’ Randerson to tap in after some sustained Hedon pressure.

Hessle pulled one back before the break and were still very much in this evenly matched game.

The second half saw Hessle pull the deficit back even further, to give them every chance of a victory. Had it not been for some missed chances and a sound performance from Rob Johnson between the sticks and strong defensive performances from Lewis Bassett and George Cooper, it could have been a very different story.

Late on Matt Broadley completed his hat-trick as he was sent clear by his brother Will, he rounded the keeper and scored with great composure, to give Hedon a narrow victory and a welcome 3 points.

DCSI Tigers 1  Hedon Rangers 9

Jack Etherington bagged an impressive 4 goals as Hedon Rangers continued their good start to the season.

George Cooper opened the scoring for Rangers with a well taken free kick. This enabled Hedon to settle down and good flowing football gave Jack the opportunity to use a combination of coolness and opportunism in front of goal to give him a first half hat trick.

Further goals in the second half from Thomas Clark, Kristian Carter, Lewis Bassett, another from Etherington and a late penalty converted by Matt Broadley gave Hedon the victory.

Batemans 2     Hedon Rangers 5

Hedon’s superior finishing and resolute defending proved to be the difference in this entertaining and hard fought game with Batemans.

Jacob Coulman opened the scoring for Hedon with a shot from the edge of the box and Thomas Clark soon followed this up with a calm strike from the left wing position.

Leighton Mower pulled one back for the home side after sustained pressure.

Early in the second half Matt Broadley beautifully lobbed the advancing keeper to restore Hedon’s 2 goal advantage, but Mower again pulled one back.

A further goal from Matt Broadley and one from his brother Will was enough for Rangers’ to seal the victory.

Hedon Rangers 3  Beverley Town 3

Hedon Rangers and Beverley Town provided an excellent morning’s entertainment as they shared the spoils in this Myton league clash.

Hedon started much the brighter, but relentless attacks where thwarted by a resolute and well organised Beverley defence. After this initial onslaught, Beverley steadily played their way into the game and after earning a corner the ball was turned in at the near post by Joe Kelly to give them a one nil lead. This was soon followed up by a beautifully lobbed goal by Jack Cunningham, leaving Hedon, the league leaders, two goals down and a mountain to climb.

Kristian Carter gave Hedon hope as he calmly executed a cross from Thomas Clark on the left wing, just before the break.

George Cooper hit a thunderous shot from the left flank early in the second half to draw the teams level and give Hedon a psychological advantage. Beverley, however had other ideas and a defensive lapse saw Ryan Low take advantage of the space and calmly finish to give them a 3.2 lead and provide a tense finish.

Hedon continued to pile on the pressure in search of an equaliser and after a succession of corners, taken expertly by Cooper, Ryan Wilson managed to convert one with his head, despite the brave efforts of Town’s keeper.
