Knock Out Cup Final
Hedon Rangers v North Ferriby Greens
9th April 2006

DCSI Tigers 4  Hedon Rangers 7
This week it was the turn of Wil to have the bragging rites in the Broadley household as he scored an impressive hat-trick in this entertaining 7.4 victory.

In a tactical re-shuffle Wil Broadley, playing up front, opened the scoring with 2 well taken one on ones. Goals from Bassett, Coulman, Wil’s third and two replies from The Tigers left the half time score at 5.2.

Into the second half and further goals from the industrious Kristian Carter and a customary strike from Matt Broadley, gave Hedon a dominant position. But DCSI were not finished and played some of their best football of the game to bring the score back to a respectable 7.4. With Hedon legs tiring on the heavy pitch and given more time DCSI could’ve drawn the scores even closer. But the three goal cushion proved to be enough.

Hedon Rangers 3   St Andrews PBC 3

What was billed as an even encounter proved to be just that as Hedon Rangers and St Andrews fought out this entertaining game.

It was Hedon who took a lead to the half time break when George Cooper converted from close range. Most of the play in the first half centred around the midfield, as both teams battled for the upper hand.

Into the second half and St Andrews came out the stronger of the two sides and put the Rangers defence under sustained pressure. This effort was rewarded with first the equaliser and then a goal to put them in front. Kristian Carter then levelled the scores when he finished calmly after being put through by a deft Sam Melton pass.

St Andrews took what looked like a match winning lead from the penalty spot only for a resolute Rangers team to draw level with a scrambled Wil Broadley goal in the dying seconds.

Hedon Rangers 7   South Cave 2

Two solo goals from Matt Broadley opened the scoring for Hedon after these sides had looked quite even balanced in the early stages. Hedon then capitalised on defensive lapses with Wil Broadley scoring a beauty from outside the box and Jack Etherington tapping in after a flowing Rangers move.

Into the second half and it was Sam Melton’s turn to convert from close range, followed by a cool Kristian Carter strike. Dan Carrick pounced on a loose ball in the South Cave box to force home Hedon’s 7th.

Credit must be given to South Cave, who continued to battle for every ball and they were rewarded with two well taken goals from Jimmy Carter.

St Andrews PBC 1 Hedon Rangers 2

Hedon Rangers completed their league programme with a 2.1 win in a very even encounter with St Andrews PBC.

Hedon had the upper hand in the early stages but were unable to convert this pressure into goals. Kristian Carter hit the cross bar after a strong run and a number of chances from crosses also went begging. When Carter was given a second chance from a fine Wil Broadley through ball he made no mistake and coolly slotted home.

This proved to be the wake up call that St Andrews needed and Hedon came under some sustained pressure. Alertness in the Rangers goal from Rob Johnson and bravery from Jack Storey kept St Andrews at bay, until the defence was breached with a fine effort, to leave the first half all square at 1.1

Both sides play involved great individual skill, combined with some lovely passing football. After a flowing move down the left flank, Jack Etherington found time at the far post, picked his spot and calmly finished, putting Rangers in front. A lead they held on to the end of the game.

Johnson, Craggs, Wilson, Storey, Morfitt, Randerson, Carrick, Broadley W, Cooper, Broadley M, Carter, Clark, Melton, Etherington, Bassett, Coulman (unused)

Knock Out Cup Final

Hedon Rangers 6  North Ferriby Greens 2

In an eagerly anticipated knock out cup final Hedon Rangers ran out victors in an entertaining game at Dene Park.

Kritstian ‘The Beast’ Carter opened the scoring early in the game, after a determined run was rewarded with a thunderous finish. North Ferriby, not to be out done, were soon on the counter and Josh Underwood found room and finished in fine style lifting the ball over Rangers keeper Rob Johnson.

Hedon made best use of the space on the large pitch and Matt Broadley raced clear from the half way line and slotted home.  A great move involving Carter again, was saved by the Ferriby Keeper, but Will Broadley was on hand to finish emphatically. With the half time interval looming Matt Broadley supplied an excellent cross from a free kick for Alex ‘Taz’ Randerson to convert at the back post for a half time lead of 4.1

North Ferriby playing with the wind put Hedon under some pressure as they fought hard to get themselves back into the game. But it was Randerson who scored for Rangers directly from a free kick on the edge of the box to give Hedon a commanding position. Ferriby rallied again and pulled one back, only for Dan Carrick to rifle home for the Rangers with a great strike inside the box.

A committed Rangers team made good use of the vast pitch and their pace in all quarters saw them victorious as Jack Etherington lifted the Cup in what has been an enjoyable and rewarding first season of 11 a side football.

Commiserations must go to North Ferriby Greens who took their obvious disappointment  in their stride. They should be congratulated on a great achievement in reaching the final itself.

Hedon Rangers: Johnson, Wilson, Bassett, Storey, Morfitt, Randerson, Broadley W, Coulman, Cooper, Carter, Broadley M, Craggs, Carrick, Clark, Melton, Etherington
