Reckitts AFC 2 Hedon Rangers 1

Hedon Rangers fielded a much changed side from last season’s good finish in the Humber Premier League.  It was two costly mistakes from Hedon Rangers that gave all three points to Reckitts on the opening league game of the 08/09 season.

Reckitts started much the better and went close in the 12th min through Kirk Blake.  Hedon Rangers started to respond to the fast flowing passing game of Reckitts when in the 20th min a superb volley from Matty Crane was just wide of the Reckitts post.  In the 22nd min Reckitts took the lead with a fortunate goal when Callum Dransfield crossed the ball from the right only to find Glen Adams to turn the ball into his own net.  Hedon Rangers came more into the game and Pete Birnie and a screamer from Keith Parkinson went close for Hedon Rangers in the first half.

More chances were created but not taken by Hedon Rangers in the second half with Paul Wilkinson having the best opportunity, but these were mainly half chances.  Reckitts were playing some good football but their efforts were long range which didn’t trouble Derek Peat in the Hedon Rangers goal.  John Batch for Reckitts was booked in the 50th min after a dangerous two footed lunge on Keith Parkinson. In the 50th min Reckitts went 2-0 up after another unfortunate mistake by Derek Peat who couldn’t hold onto to a cross Gaz Barston was on hand to square the ball to Lindon Metcalf for a simple tap in.  Manger Kenny Harrrison made two changes and brought on Adrian Cooper and Jamie Houghton to booster the attack.  In the 75th min Reckitts went close with a superb strike from Callum Dransfield which ratteld the Hedon Rangers post.  In the dying minutes Hedon Rangers were awarded a penalty when Adrain Parkinson was upended in the Reckitts penalty area.  Adrain Cooper coolly slotted the ball home.  With the last kick of the game Hedon Rangers should have shared the points when Jamie Houghton fed through a superb ball for Paul Wilkinson and with only the keeper to beat he pulled his shot wide.

Frustration was evident from Hedon Rangers after the game in a match they should have at least taken a point from.  On Wednesday night Hedon Rangers entertain locals Easington at Destiny Fitness

Hedon Rangers 4 Chalk Lane 1

After Saturdays pleasing but scrappy 2-0 win against Malet Lambert manger Kenny Harrison had to make several changes against a strong contender for the league in tonight’s home game v Chalk Lane.  Shaun Thompson was playing his first game of the season.

For the first 30mins no team took control of the game with Chalk Lane playing a strong physical approach.  Hedon Rangers took this in their stride and started to make a few scoring chances.  Glen Adams made a tricky run in the 32nd min and played the ball square to Jamie McFarlane but his shot was too high.  In the 35th min Hedon Rangers took the lead after a poor clearance by Mark Bennett in the Chalk goal the ball landed at Mark Sansam and from 40yrds out he placed the ball in the top right hand corner of the Chalk goal.  Referee Stephen Wade had too on several occasions warn some of the Chalk players about their physical approach to the game but this only seemed to make them more determined to make some rash challenges.  On the stroke of half-time Hedon Rangers increased their lead after a foul on Jamie Mcfarlane.  Chris Walker shot from the free-kick found Shaun Thompson who re-directed the ball into the bottom corner.

Chalk Lane made several changes in the second half and were immediately back into the game when Lee Shilleto handled the ball in the box to give a penalty to Chalk.  Chris Wainman was the scorer for Chalk.  Hedon Rangers were now starting to take control of the game with Chris Walker, Jamie McFarlane and Mark Sansam controlling the midfield.  Lee Shilleto and Billy Hurst at the heart of the Hedon Rangers defence were also giving the Chalk Lane forwards no chances.  A terrible two footed challenge gave ref Stephen Wade no option to give a red card to Dave Bannigan after he had already given him a yellow card in the first half.  Chalk Lane pushed more players forward to try to make the scores level but these were limited to long range efforts. In the 72nd min Chalk Lane didn’t help their cause when Andy Raynor was also dismissed for a second bookable offence. Mark Sansam scored the goal of the game n the 80th min after some superb one touch passing move involving George Carling, and Jamie McFarlane.  To round off a superb performance Matty Whithead scored in the 87th min to give a well deserved three points for Hedon Rangers.

In a change to the fixture for Sat 30th Aug Hedon Rangers are now at home at Saltend to Barton Town Old Boys Res.

Hedon Rangers 5 Barton Town OB Res 2

After Tuesday superb performance v Chalk Lane Hedon Rangers kept much the same team for the visit of Barton Town to Saltend.  All three points were secure after another strong performance with Shaun Thompson been the pick of some good performances from many off the Hedon Rangers team.

Within 7mins of the start Hedon Rangers took the lead after some lovely passing moves between Mike Carling and Shaun Thompson gave Chris Walker a chance with a superb chip he gave Corey Hadfield in the Barton Goal no chance. Hedon Rangers should have increased their lead in the 12th min when Glen Adams skipped around two defenders to square the ball to Shaun Thompson but he shot wide of the Barton goal.  In the 20th min Peter Birnie increased the lead after some more tricky play from Glen Adams.  By now Hedon Rangers were in full control of the game and as more chances were created they should have gone into a commanding lead but the chances were not taken.  Barton Town then came back into the game in the 34th min with a well worked goal from Danny Longstone.  Just before half time Barton were dealt a blow when defender Lee Markham left the field with a knee injury.  To make matter worse for Barton Hedon Rangers increased their lead in the 44th min when Mike Carling finished off a superb run with a powerful strike.

Barton Town started the second half much the stronger and were rewarded a second goal in the 52nd min from Danny Longstone.  The game was end to end action and with both teams looking to secure the three points it was Hedon Rangers that took the lead again.  In the 56th min a superb cross from Peter Birnie found Mike Carling unmarked and his powerful header gave him his second goal of the game. With a back injury on Mike Carling and a foot injury for Chris Walker Adrian Cooper and Paul Wilkinson were brought on.  Up front Shaun Thompson was in superb form and in the 70th min he gave Adrian Cooper his goal to slot home to secure all three points.  Another worry for Hedon Rangers was when Captain Mark Sansam was brought off with a thigh injury.  Keith Parkinson came into defence for Mark.  Hopefully all three injuries are not too bad for next week’s game v Champions Sculcoates at Saltend.

Hedon Rangers 1 Sculcoates Amts 0 (Match abandoned after 50mins)

In a superb game of end to end football in which Hedon Rangers had taken the lead it was a torrential downpour of rain that referee Mr Paul Darby had no other option to abandon the game at Saltend.

Hedon Rangers started much the better in difficult conditions and they took the lead in the 7th min after Mike Carling was upended in the Sculcoates penalty area.  Adrian Cooper sent John Sowersby in the Sculcoates goal the wrong way to take the lead. Champions Sculcoates then started to play some superb football but it was Hedon Rangers that should have increased their lead in the 15th min after a superb long ball from Billy Melton found Shaun Thompson to race past Steve Irwin only to have his shot saved by the Sculcoates keeper.  Sculcoates went close on a couple of occasions but they could not beat Derek Peat in the Rangers goal.  As the sky looked more and more threatening of a downpour Hedon Rangers had two further good chances with Mike Carling and Adrian Cooper going close only to find John Sowerby in superb form.  Just before half time the heavens opened this even sided game was eventually brought to an end in the 50th min by ref Paul Darby who was commended by both teams for his excellent display.

Mr Darby gave both teams a 10min spell in the second half to see if the game could continue but with standing water all over the pitch it was very evident that there was no other option to abandon the game.  Hedon Rangers travel to Beverly next week and can take a great deal of confidence with their first half performance against champions and league leaders Sculcoates.

Beverley Town 4 Hedon Rangers 0

With too many forced changes and long term injuries may have added to the result it was not the main cause of the poor game from Hedon Rangers.  Only Jamie Houghton could be pleased with their performance.

Hedon Rangers started the game much the better than Beverley and in the opening 20mins they were in full control of the game.  Shaun Thompson, Adrian Cooper and Chris Walker all went close to opening the scoring for Hedon Rangers.  Once Beverley Town went in front after a long ball found Craig Lamplugh to open the scoring for Beverley this seemed to signal to the players of Hedon Rangers to just go through the motions.  Beverley Town increased their lead in the 25th min after two many weak challenges gave Mike Winfield a simple tap in pass keeper Dez Peat.  Hedon Rangers were under constant pressure for the rest of the first half and time after time gave the ball away far too easily and it was no surprise when Craig Lamplugh scored for Beverley in the 40th min after an unfortunate slip from Dez Peat in the Hedon Rangers goal.

Any threat in the second half were created by the hard working Jamie Houghton for Hedon Rangers but none of the other players seemed interested in trying to claw there way back into the game.  The only real scoring chance feel to Shaun Thompson in the 56th min but his weak effort was easily saved by the Beverley keeper.  In the 82nd min Beverley Town scored their final goal after a clearance from Dez Peat looked to have been hand balled by Shaun Gibson but the ref saw otherwise to give an easy victory for Beverley Town.  Next week sees the visit of newly promoted St Andrews to Saltend and Manager Kenny Harrison will be looking for a better performance from every player in this below par game

Hessle Rangers 1 Hedon Rangers 3

Hedon Rangers dug out a much improved performance especially in defence against a very spirited and hard working Hessle Rangers side to take all three points at Blackburn Sports Club.

Although Hessle Rangers are near the bottom of the league they showed they can produce some good football that would challenge most teams in the league.  Hedon Rangers had to get back to their best to beat off the challenge to win the game.  In the first 5mins of the game Hessle came the close to take the lead after a long throw the ball was only cleared to Hessle Dan Odell but he couldn’t keep his shot down and it sailed over the Hedon bar.  It was difficult for Hedon to produce any decent football as Hessle were clearly fired up for the game and never gave any of the Hedon players any time on the ball.  Hessle Rangers looked to have taken the lead when a superb strike from Tom Briggs in the 19th min was tipped onto the bar by Pete Martin in the Hedon goal. This fired up Hessle even more and Hedon found them camped in there half for most of the first half.  On 35mins Hedon Rangers had there first chance of the game when Jamie Houghton challenged Dan Ward the Hessle Keeper the ball fell to Chris Walker only for his shot to be brilliantly headed away on the goal line by Lee Gardiner. Adrian Parkinson at right back for Hedon was in superb form and he scored the opening goal in the 37th min after Shaun Thompson laid the ball through for Aidy to fire the ball home in the bottom corner. On the run of play Hedon Rangers were fortunate to be two up at half time after a foul on Jamie Houghton was given by ref A Parsonage in the 44th min.  Pete Birnie resulting free kick found Jamie Houghton to head the ball home.

In the second half Hedon Rangers found more space and time as Hessle simply couldn’t keep up there work rate in the second half.  Pete Birnie and Chris Walker in the Hedon midfield were finding more time on the ball and were producing some good chances for the Hedon forwards.  Mike Carling for Hedon found himself through on goal after a superb through ball from Shaun Thompson was brilliantly saved by Dan Ward in the Hessle goal. In the 64th min Hessle Rangers reduced the score line after Craig Holmes netted for Hessle. Hedon Rangers though were not to be denied their win and in the 70th min they were awarded a penalty after Jamie Houghton was fouled in the Hessle penalty area.  Mike Carling gave Dan Ward no chance from the penalty too make the game safe for Hedon.  A few chances went begging for both sides in the dying minutes with sub Dan Barley for Hessle going the closest with a terrific strike that rattled the Hedon bar and both teams had strong appeals for a penalty that was turned away each time by the officials.  This was a much better display from Hedon Rangers and Manager Kenny Harrison will be hoping they produce the same for next week’s away visit to Sculcoates.

Sculcoates Amts 4 Hedon Rangers 0

Although the scoreline suggests an easy victory for champions Sculcoates in truth the scorline flattered Sculcoates as everyone at the game agreed.  With a first goal scored from a free-kick that should not have been given a scrappy goal that should have been cleared at two late goals in the 90th and 92nd min of the game Hedon Rangers could feel a little shell shocked with the score.

Manager Kenny Harrison and assistant Steve Brough were happy with the work rate of their team they could not have been to pleased with there overhaul quality of football.  All to often the midfield of Pete Birnie, Chris Walker,Jamie McFarlane and James Houghton bypassed as the ball was played upfield to the Hedon Rangers forwards who in turn found it difficult to hold the ball up in the windy conditions.  Sculcoates took the lead in the 15th min after an innocuous challenge by Ian Smith resulted in a free kick that only Referee Mr Towse deemed a foul by the players and supporters.  From the free kick Dave Gowans produced an unstoppable shot in the top corner.  Sculcoates were at full strength for the first time this season and were producing some superb flowing football that Hedon Rangers found difficult to contend with.  Ricky Field was causing many problems for the Hedon Rangers defence but with Billy Melton and Ian Smith in superb form they snubbed out many of the Sculcoates attack.  Hedon Rangers went close on a couple of occasions with a header by Peter Birnie in the 44th min going just wide of the post.

In the sond half Sculcoates kept up there constant attack on the Hedon Rangers goal but Hedon Rangers more than matched them for work rate but not for the quality of football.  In the 65th min another contentious decision by Mr Towse for a back pass by Ian Smith that shinned of his leg back to Glen Powley in the Rangers goal gave Sculcoates afrre kick close to the goal line.  After a shot that was saved the ball was finally scramled home after two attempts to clear the ball by the Rangers defence gave Tony Scuton a simple tap in.  Sculcoates last two goals in the dying minutes were of sheer quality from a superb strike from Mike Bartlett in the 90th min and another superb flowing move from Sculcoates that saw Mark Smith round off a hard fought win for the champions.

Next week it’s the 1st round of the Senior Cup against Reckitts at Saltend

Hedon Rangers 4 Reckitts AFC 2

In the 1st round of the Senior Cup Hedon Rangers progressed to round two after a convincing victory against Reckitts AFC at Saltend.  A hat trick from Shaun Thompson and a superb man of the match performance from Jamie Houghton in an unaccustomed position at centre half were two of the main reasons for the much improved performance from last weeks game.

Hedon Rangers started much the better and were soon causing problems for the Reckitts defence.  After a superb run from Mike Carling on the right he squared the ball to Shaun Thompson to net home in the bottom corner in the 10th min.  As soon as they had scored their opening goal Hedon Rangers were then guilty of sitting back too much and inviting Reckitts back into the game.  On the 20th min Reckitts levelled the match after Pete Martin in a crowd of players dropped the ball from a corner for Alex Reveley to tap the ball home.  Unlike last week where Hedon Rangers were lacking any quality this week they were showing plenty of quality football with Chris Walker and Jamie McFarlane producing some superb balls for Shaun Thompson and Mike Carling up front.  In the 32nd min Jamie McFarlane went close after good work from Shan Thompson.  It was Reckitts though who took the lead in the 35th min after a strong run from Ben Kinsley through the Hedon Rangers defence he produced an unstoppable shot.  Hedon Rangers came storming back and went close on several occasions.  Just before half time Shaun Thompson scored the best goal of the game after a through ball from Mike Carling that split open the Reckitts defence in the 43rd min.

In the second half Reckitts looked to push more forward for a victory but any attempts on goal were easily dealt with by Billy Melton and Jamie Houghton in the Hedon Rangers defence.  Mike Carling up front for Hedon Rangers was causing many problems with his pace for the Reckitts defence and in the 50th min he produced another strong run to give a chance for Shaun Thompson.  Although his shot was well saved by Steve Dixon in the Reckitts goal Chris Walker was on hand to slot the ball home.  Reckitts were now becoming more frustrated as the game progressed and Dave Botham was guilty of taking his frustration out on Adrain Parkinson that should have been a straight red for a two footed tackle.  In the 80th min Hedon Rangers sealed their win when Shaun Thompson scored his hat trick.  Although surrounded by three Reckitts players Shaun somehow squeezed the ball through the defenders and the static Reckitts keeper. In the 85th min Steve Dixon in the Reckitts goal made amends with a superb diving save from Mark Sansam.  Manager Kenny Harrison and his assistant Steven Brough will be looking for the same hard work and quality as they are back in league action next Saturday away to St Andrews PC

St Andrews PC Club 2 Hedon Rangers 0

In windy conditions and a pitch that should have had sheep grazing on it due to the length of the grass in some places and also Hedon Rangers inconsistency was another factor in a scrappy game.  With ref Mr Porter also giving some very strange decisions this also didn’t help with the flow of the game.

St Andrews started much the brighter and could have taken the lead when Mike Leng was through on goal after not been given a blatant offside a superb tackle by Billy Melton prevented St Andrews taking the lead.  St Andrews physical approach seemed to knock the stuffing out of any quality play and in the 20th min a very late tackle on Jamie McFarlane only gave St Andrews more opportunities to carry out more of their physical approach as ref Mr Porter didn’t seem the least interested in stopping any late challenges.  His only concern during the first half was to over rule any decisions the linesman made.  Hedon Rangers had several chances in the first half to take a lead with Mark Sansam going the close in the 25th min with a header that struck the bar. Shaun Thompson was getting though his usual tremendous amount of work up front for Hedon Rangers but he couldn’t find his goal scoring touch after Chris Walker had given him a chance in the 30th min when through on goal his shot was easily saved by Gary Ogrady in the St Andrews goal.

At half time manager Kenny Harrison and his assistant Steven Brough installed in his players to match the physical approach and to forget about the refs strange decisions.  Unfortunately the players forgot to remember that at set pieces they must not loose their markers which were to give St Andrews both goals in the second half.  The first in the 60th  from a corner found Lee Nahar unmarked to head home after Pete Martin in the Hedon Rangers goal had pulled off a superb save. Five minutes later a similar corner found Shaun Day unmarked at the far post and although his shot was going well wide of the post Rob Fowler diverted the ball onto the post and into the net.  Hedon Rangers brought on Damien Cane and Glen Adams to strengthen their attack. Youngster Matty Whithead was also given his first chance and he looks a bright prospect for the future.  After a superb through ball from Damien Cane found Mark Sansam in his own half as St Andrews pushed forward the inept officials gave the strangest decision of the game giving him offside as he raced through on goal with only the keeper to beat.  St Andrews were constantly wasting time by kicking the ball away on numerous occasions but this went unpunished and when Hedon Rangers attempted to increase the pace it was stopped again by the ref.  A quick free kick by Chris Walker in the 75th would have given Glen Adams a chance but as the St Andrews player was only 1yrd away from the play he prevented the ball to be found by Glen.  Mr Porter deemed that they shouldn’t have taken the free kick to quickly and it wasn’t the fact that the St Andrews player was only 1yrd from play!.  However strong the players felt about the poor display from the officials and the state of the pitch Manager Kenny Harrison was right in saying that it was Hedon Rangers poor performance that was the reason they lost the game.  Next Saturday game v Pocklington Town has been changed to Saltend after Pocklington request as their two other sides have been drawn at home in the cup.

Hedon Rangers 3 Pocklington Town 1

Two superb strikes and a third goal to give him his hat-trick from Shaun Thompson were enough to give all three points for Hedon Rangers.  In difficult conditions both sides found it hard to produce any quality football.  Damien Cane was given a start after a long lay off due to his bad injury in the Tannant Cup against Hornsea.

Pocklington Town in their first attack in the 5th min went close but a superb clearance from Billy Melton denied them scoring.  Hedon Rangers came more into the game and started to play some good football.  In the 25th min a free kick from Damien Cane went close after Adrian Cooper was fouled.  Ian Smith and Shaun Thompson then combined well in the 28th min and although the ball was cleared by the Pocklington Town defence Ian Smith was on hand to hit a fierce shot for it only to be saved on the goal line.  On the stroke of half time Hedon Rangers took the lead after a superb ball from Mike Carling found Shaun Thompson in the Pocklington penalty area.  With pin point accuracy Shaun fired the ball home giving Carl Silburn in the Pocklington goal no chance.

Within 3mins of the second half Pocklington Town drew level after a though ball caught out a static Hedon Rangers defence and although Derek Peat in the Rangers goal pulled off a superb save from Kalum Horne it was Brent Terry who reacted the quickest to tap the ball home.  Hedon Rangers started to push more forward to try to take the lead again and in the 53rd minute they were given a chance when a shot from Shaun Thompson was deemed to handle the ball by Bill Hardy in the Pockington penalty area.  From the resulting penalty Adrian Cooper failed to score from the spot kick with a superb save from Carl Silburn.  Brent Terry went close for Pocklington Town in the 60th min only to be denied by a superb save from Dez Peat in the Rangers goal.  Adrian Parkinson at right back was again in fantastic form and in the 65th he combined well with Chris Walker down the right and although his cross was cleared by the Pockington defence Shaun Thompson struck the ball home into the top corner to give him his second goal of the game.  Hedon Rangers were producing some of their best football of the game in the last quarter of the game and Shaun Thompson was unlucky not to score his hat trick when in the 77th min he produced another superb strike that hit the post. Shaun Thompson rounded of a tremendous performance when he nutmegged the keeper to score his hat-trick in the 90th min.  Hedon Rangers have no game next week which may help their injury list with Jamie Houghton been the main concern with a groin strain for the trip to Pocklington Town in R2 of the Senior Cup on the 8th November

Pocklington Town 5 Hedon Rangers 3 AET

In the 2nd round of the Senior Cup Hedon Ranger had only them self’s to blame for not progressing into the next round.  After taking a 3-1 comfortable lead and in full control of the game they gifted the game to Pocklington with two incidents that change the fortunes for Pocklington.

Against the wind in the first half Hedon Rangers should have taken the lead after the first 5mins when after a strong run from Mike Carling gave Shaun Thompson his first goal scoring chance when trough on goal with just the keeper to beat he shot wide. Within the next 2mins Pocklington took the lead when a long ball James Rudd found Alex Fletcher and with the Hedon Rangers defence looking for an offside that was not given he netted to give Pocklington the lead.  Hedon Rangers were guilty again off not finishing off some suberb flowing football when Ian Smith in the 10min found Shaun Thompson his delicate lob went just wide of the post.  On 17mins Hedon Rangers showed some more superb passing football to level the score when Adrian Cooper and Damien Cane laid on Ian Smith on the left and his superb cross found Shaun Thompson to head home. Dez Peat in the Hedon Rangers goal kept Hedon Rangers in the game pulling off two superb saves from Alex Fletcher and Kevin Goodwin.  In the 27th min another superb move with Glen Adams and Ian Smith he found Damien Cane and a pinpoint shot into the corner gave Carl Silburn no chance.  Hedon Rangers were now in full control of the game and it was no surprise when they increased the lead in the 29th min when Mike Carling beat two defenders to find Shaun Thompson who the squared the ball to Glen Adams for a simple tap in to give them a 3-1 lead.  Hedon Rangers were guilty again of not finishing off some lovely passing moves that would have seen them taking them into an unsalable lead. Right on the stroke of half time Pocklington scored after Hedon Rangers were guilty off not concentrating after they had a free kick deep in the Pocklington area the ball was cleared and with only Keith Parkinson in a one on one marking position for Hedon Rangers Brent Terry raced passed to give Pockington a one goal deficit for the second half.

In the 60th min the first of the incident that changed the fortunes for Pocklington was after a rash challenge from Keith Parkinson saw him sent off for his second bookable offence.  This changed the game significantly and gave Pocklington more scope to attack but it was Hedon Rangers who should have taken a two goal lead after Glen Adams won the ball off Billy Hardy he was through on goal with only the keeper to beat he tried to lob the ball over Carl Silburn but this was easily saved.  With only 5mins remaining Hedon Rangers second gift for Pocklington was given when Damien Cane challenge on Rob Gibson gave a penalty for Pocklington to take the game into extra time.  With Hedon Rangers 10 men tiring in the extra time they scored twice in extra time to go through into round three of the Senior Cup.  Only Hedon Rangers had themselves to blame for not finishing off the game in the first half when they were in full control of the game and for two incidents that gave Pockington the chance of going through into the next round of the cup.  Next Saturday it’s back to league action with a difficult away trip to Hornsea Town.

North Ferriby Utd Res 0 Hedon Rangers 3

In appalling conditions that was very nearly abandoned due to the snowy conditions, Hedon Rangers were thankful that ref Mr D Cook played the full 90mins.  With Craig Palmer making a welcome return he showed his goal scoring touch with a superb hat- trick.

With the wind against them in the first half Hedon Rangers had to do much of the defending in the snow.  Billy Melton, Keith Parkinson, Ian Smith and Adrian Parkinson at the back for Hedon Rangers were in superb form and never gave the Ferriby forwards a sniff of a chance in the first half.  After some good work between Adrian Cooper and Paul Wilkinson the ball feel to Craig Palmer and a superb strike that gave Adam Boyers in the Ferriby goal no chance it was Hedon Rangers that took the lead in the 15th min.  Due to the wintery conditions both teams found it hard to play any decent football.  Up front for Hedon Rangers Paul Wilkinson was working hard in his first game back for over six weeks.  On 43mins Adrian Cooper superb run that saw him beat two defenders ended when Ben Morley upended him to give Hedon Rangers a penalty.  Craig Palmer coolly slotted the ball home to give Hedon Rangers a two goal lead into the second half.

Manager Kenny Harrison made one change in the second half bringing on Shaun Thompson for Paul Wilkinson.  North Ferriby also made changes bringing on Luke Byron and Jason Legge to bolster their attack.  Derek Peat in the Hedon Rangers goal was called into action in the 70th min after a powerful strike from Danny Moon it was superbly tipped over the bar.  From the resultant corner Dez bravely saved again at the feet of Dinah Zwakra.  With the conditions slowly getting better Hedon Rangers were starting to take control of the game with Jamie McFarlane and Chris Walker in the Rangers midfield showing some superb passing moves.  Shaun Thompson was also showing some deft touches upfront to keep the ball that gave the hard working Hedon Rangers defence some welcome rest.  In the 81st min Hedon Rangers sealed the game after Billy Melton cleared the ball from a Ferriby corner to Glen Adams who then found Craig Palmer in space and with only the keeper to beat there was only one outcome and sure enough he rifled the ball home to give all three points to Hedon Rangers.  Next Saturday its back home to Eastside against league title contenders Beverley Town

Hedon Rangers 1 Beverley Town 0

After last weeks good win Manger Kenny Harrison and assistant manager Steven Brough had to make several enforced changes this week with Paul Wilkinson, Adrian Cooper and Damien Cane unavailable.  However against league leaders Beverley Town it was possibly the best team performance that saw Hedon Rangers take all three points at Eastend.

Outstanding performances from defender Billy Melton and forward Sean Thompson were the highlight for Hedon Rangers.  Right from the start Hedon Rangers took the game to the league leaders and never let up in their determination to win the game.  In the 12th min Adrian Parkinson laid on Glen Adams who skipped around two defenders to shoot wide of the Beverly goal.  Beverley Town started to show why they are league leaders with some superb passing moves but with Billy Melton in the heart of the Hedon Rangers defence in superb form no chances were created for Craig Lamplough and Rich Durham upfront for Beverley.  A mistake in the 18th min by the Beverley Town defence gave the ball away to Jamie McFarlane and with only the keeper to beat he coolly slotted the ball to Glen Adams to rifle the ball home to give Hedon Rangers the lead.  For the rest of the first half Hedon Rangers defence were under constant pressure but Beverley simply couldn’t break a resolute Hedon Rangers defence. Hedon Rangers keeper Dez Peat was also in superb form and any half chances that were created was easily dealt with.  In the 20th min Beverley created their first real chance but Craig Lamplough could only find the side netting.

Taking a slim lead into the second half Hedon Rangers were under constant pressure from the league leaders but upfront Sean Thompson was causing problems for the Beverly defence.  Against a much stronger and taller defence of Rich Jagger and Shaun Gibson the diminutive striker was a constant threat for Hedon Rangers.  Time after time he held the ball up well to give the overworked defence some rest from the constant barrage on the Hedon Rangers goal.  With constant corners and free kicks the Beverly forwards could not get the better of Keith Parkinson, Billy Melton, Ian Smith and Adrian Parkinson in the Hedon Rangers defence and even when Beverly Town made several changes late in the game bringing on two more forwards they couldn’t create any clear chances.  With Mike Carling and Chris Walker for Hedon Rangers struggling with injuries Mangers Kenny Harrison brought on Steven Brough and youngster Matty Whitehead who performed admirably for the last tense twenty minutes. This was a superb team performance from Hedon Rangers that must be taken into next week’s game against league contenders Chalk Lane on the 3G pitch at Hull University.
